Weak town identity fails to connect communities

Source of power:

Cultural

Space of power:

TOWN'S IMAGE, REPUTATION AND IDENTITY

Description:

Participants felt there are "pockets” of culture in Swindon, but that it is a fragmented town with no whole identity, broad "Swindon" feeling, or "cultural cohesion". They felt there is no shared understanding among Swindon residents of where to go out, how to behave and what to do in Swindon beyond one's own "cultural area". They noted that the absence of a university may be contributing to this fragmentation issue and that it is unclear what role Swindon's existing education establishments play in its identity.

Quotes from participants:

"...Swindon is quite a fragmented town, lots of pockets of culture… no whole identity...”
