Need for community-led initiatives to tackle community issues

Description:

Participants felt there needs to be more community development to get people to form community groups which apply for funding to deal with issues that affect them. They felt initiatives should be developed with the community and that this would help to achieve "sustainability". 'Clear, Hold, Build' was cited as an example of this kind of initiative [aims to tackle organised crime groups in neighbourhoods through building community resilience]. It was felt that community engagement can help to identify issues affecting the local population and that Swindon's community has a part to play in reintroducing a "vibrant culture” to Swindon.

Quotes from participants:

"...it almost needs community development… getting people within their own community to come up and form a little community group, apply for funding themselves and deal with the issues."
