Night-Time Economy Systems Maps
Mapping the night-time economy at a local level to reduce unequal harms
Using the maps in practice
Case study from Swindon
The following example of how the night-time economy maps can be used in practice has been developed through collaboration between researchers and our group of stakeholders who work in national and local government, and in the community and voluntary sectors.
After we built the night-time economy maps, we held a series of meetings with our stakeholders during which we discussed how the maps might be used in practice. Based on these discussions, we anticipate that the maps could be used in many different ways. We provide one example below.
Stakeholders in Swindon identified local strategies that the map could help inform and implement. These include:
• Swindon’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy()
• One Swindon, One Plan, Three Missions()
• Get Swindon Active Strategy()
Stakeholders identified useful forums for sharing the maps with those involved in developing and implementing these strategies. They suggested that the research team present the maps at local strategy meetings with:
• The Health and Wellbeing Partnership
• The Swindon Community Safety Partnership()
• Voluntary Action Swindon()
The stakeholders thought that presenting the maps at local strategy meetings with a wider group of stakeholders would prompt thinking and discussions about:
• how to meet objectives
• where there are gaps and how to address these
• setting priorities
• analysing local data
• different tools to use in their work (one stakeholder suggested that they would use the activity from the mapping workshop in their work in the local community).
