Lack of collaborative working causing duplication and confusion

GOVERNANCE, FUNDING AND VISION

Description:

Participants felt that a lack of coordinated and collaborative working between communities and organisations means there is "a confused picture" and "a lot of duplication". They highlighted that the integrated care system, police service, Swindon Borough Council, and other entities apply for the same funding and run similar initiatives and blamed a lack of familiarity with collaborative working. In particular, participants questioned whether different organisations operating in the 'youth space' were collaborating.

Quotes from participants:

"...there’s no focal point and we’re not working together. We’ve got lots of sporadic things happening in Swindon, lots of different communities that aren’t connected..."
"There’s quite a lot of duplication now… I’ve got four years funding from the… national lottery, and the police have… just put out a tender for Youth Voice. I’m like, ‘we’re already doing that’. So I’ve then got to go back and say, can we have that funding?"
"It’s a confused picture... you’ve got all of the various organisations that are trying to do something but they’re not necessarily used to... working in partnership... it’s about using our resources wisely…"
"there’s so much going on, isn’t there, in that youth space... so many different systems interacting with each other, are they all talking?"
