Low taxi use among young people due to Swindon taxi murders legacy

Description:

Participants reported that a lot of young people will not use taxis in Swindon because of the legacy of the Christopher Halliwell taxi murders. Taxi drivers in Swindon have also received abuse from riders under the influence. The council has therefore launched an initiative on their website about safe taxi travel and acceptable rider behaviour.

Quotes from participants:

"…because we had the Halliwell murder a few years… a lot of them [young people] still won’t get into taxis because of what their parents are saying... but on the flip side of that... [taxi drivers] were getting picked on when people have had too many drinks..."
