Gambling culture normalised in blue-collar industries and some ethnic minority groups

Source of power:

Cultural

Space of power:

GAMBLING AND ALCOHOL

Description:

Participants felt gambling is "quite cultural" in Swindon, noting there are often people from ethnic minority groups congregating outside two gambling venues in particular. They also felt that gambling, as well as smoking and drinking, are part of "lad culture" and are socially acceptable in blue-collar industries such as Swindon's automotive industry.

Quotes from participants:

"...it’s quite cultural, for gambling... you see them congregating outside the gambling shops"
