Departure of businesses has negatively impacted Swindon and its NTE

Source of power:

Economic

Space of power:

WORK AND EMPLOYMENT

Description:

Participants perceived that Swindon is currently considered an unattractive and 'risky' location for big business. Businesses that came to Swindon in the past did not make money and their departure has left Swindon derelict. This was considered to impact Swindon's night-time economy. Participants felt that a lack of collaborative working meant there was a lack of clarity around what business has done and could do to make Swindon more “attractive".

Quotes from participants:

"...somebody mentioned earlier that they didn’t think Bristol would ever come to Swindon..."
"Businesses come in, and then they’re gone... and what a shame... ten years down the road it’s just pretty much derelict now again... I think there’s something there that impacts that nighttime economy"
