Description:
It wasreported that there was a public space protection order (PSPO) for street drinking in place in Swindon town centre for six years. One participant described how it was reviewed and discontinued two years ago as it was perceived that it was not being enforced, its benefits could not be explained (as street drinking and other issues persisted), and there were concerns it was damaging Swindon's reputation.

"It was reviewed and considered not appropriate to continue with, number one because it wasn’t really being enforced and number two, we couldn’t explain what benefits it was having because there was still street drinking problems... and then number three there was a concern about the stigma it might bring… what is the state of Swindon, that you’ve got to control it with regulation?"
