Gambling licensing policy does not reflect public concerns

GAMBLING AND ALCOHOL

Description:

Participants noted there are many betting shops in Swindon that seem to be open 24 hours a day. They felt that Swindon's gambling licensing policy does not reflect the public's concerns about gambling or its impact on people, as it mainly focuses on ensuring users are over 18 years old instead of restricting the number of licensed premises.

Quotes from participants:

"...we have a gambling licensing policy...[it] doesn’t necessarily represent the concerns people have about gambling and the impact it has on people because it’s very much about, just, make sure people are over 18… we don’t have a policy at the moment that restricts the number of gambling premises..."
