Description:

There has been a decline in the number of betting shops in the city centre and areas such as Allestree. It was felt that these have been replaced by establishments that are more appealing to young people, such as ‘micropubs’ and adult gaming centres.

Quotes from participants:

~ “...micropubs in Allestree… probably historically they’d have been different venues... I don’t think there’s any betting shops there... doesn’t appeal to the younger people necessarily”
~ “...there’s been some closure of betting shops and you’ve had other users like... microbreweries… it’s the adult game centres that are sort of on the rise rather than betting shops, and I think that’s right.”
